Essay

The author is investigating the specific features of the Self-conception in young and mature adults that experienced limb amputation, as these are manifested in the distant period after amputation. The evidence is given that deadaptive attitude towards their physical impairment is characteristic of persons with amputated limbs. The physical defect affects their Self-conception, promotes negative self-attitude and non-acceptance of their own Selves, results in the lower self-esteem and interest in their Selves, distorts characteristics of interpersonal interaction, including communicative dimension, causes disorders in interpersonal relations and in the sphere of social adaptation in general.
