Mogylnytska L. The parameters of endothelium function in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus.

The dissertation is aimed to the investigation of the parameters of endothelium function (the serum levels of endothelium vasoactive factors) in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus with or without obesity. We studied 64 patients with diabetes and 44 persons without diabetes. We found the increase of nitric oxide metabolites levels, activity of inducible NO-synthase in the serum in patients with diabetes either with or without obesity compared to those without diabetes. The elevation of serum endothelin-1 levels in diabetic patients compared to subjects without diabetes and in obese subjects without diabetes compared to lean non-diabetic persons were found. We studied the influence of beta-adrenoblocker nebivolol on parameters of endothelium function in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus and arterial hypertension. The use of nebivolol led to the normalization of arterial blood pressure and decrease of serum levels of endothelin-1 which could be attributed to positive influence of such treatment on endothelium function in patients with diabetes mellitus. The results of the study extend the data regarding the function of endothelium and mechanisms of the development of endothelial dysfunction in patients with diabetes mellitus and provide the possibility for their correction.
