The dissertation deals with the complex investigation into the institution of copyright regarding works of fine arts as one of the objects of its legal protection. The dissertation re-search has traced the process of formation and development of copyright of works of fine arts, formulated the notion of copyright, and defined the tasks and legal sources. The char-acteristics of works of fine arts as objects of copyright have been singled out and theoretically grounded, the content of the subjective copyright as well as the cases of free use of works of fine arts have been investigated, and the ways for protection of the artists’ copyright from illegal infringe-ments have been analyzed. Proposals for improvement of the copyright legislation of Ukraine have been made on the basis of the analysis of scientific literature, normative legal acts and judicial practice.
