Essay

The influences of Cd2+, Pb2+, Ni2+, Al3+, Cu2+ and Zn2+ on the mitotic activity, cytogenetic parameters and microtubular structures of onion seedling meristem cells were studied. It was shown that the tested metals, especially Ni2+, Cd2+, Pb2+ and Al3+, have much more capacity to cause mitotic and cytokinetic course disturbing than to induce the chromosome aberrations. Such high aneugenic activity of the metals is account for their expressed antimicrotubular effects in the meristem cells.
