Essay

The dissertation focuses on the analysis of verb stylometric characteristics in modern English scholarly texts in history, philology and art. The data obtained allowed to conclude that English verb actualizes a definite number of invariant and variant conjugation forms, and the saturation of text by conjugation forms depends on their frequency, therefore the more frequent the conjugation form is, the bigger is its prevalence in the text. The verb conjugation paradigm is determined to have a style distinguishing capacity according to the stylometric parameters of frequency and prevalence. The pragmatic bent of journal articles determines the number and type of polysemantic verb meanings. The amount of realized conjugation forms is exposed to depend on the verb frequency, the number of its meanings and grammatical combinability patterns. The higher verb frequency, so the higher is the number of its actualized conjugation forms, meanings and grammatical combinability patterns. The kernel patterns withindifferent lexico-semantic groups can distinguish the sublanguages of style of scientific prose.
