Complex research deals with the problems of Old Ukrainian phonetic system development in XVI – XVIII centuries and their graphic and orthographic representation in hagiographic monuments. Аim - gives a analysis of vowel and consonant systems, the history of Cyrillic script and its adaptation to Ukrainian sound-system through numerous changes in spelling. Methods – comparative-historical, typological, descriptive, and a mode of calculation. Novelty - the author offers a periodization of fastening the phonetic of spoken language in orthographic usage. The work gives a complex analysis of hagiographic and official documents. Application field - philology.
