Object of research: rural population and labor potential of agrarian sector in Cherkasy region. Aim of research: summarize and develop theoretical and methodological as well as applied aspects of labor potential formation and substantiate the activities on enhancing the efficiency of its utilization in the agrarian sector of economy. Methods: abstract and logical, statistical and economical, consumers' testing, correlation and regressive, demographic prognostication, monographic, graphical. Results of research: the number and sex-age structure of rural population in region and its labor potential are defined; the future labor needs of agricultural enterprises and their provision with labor force are suggested. Novelty of research: methodological approaches to determining qualitative and quantitative characteristics of labor potential in agrarian sector are summarized and specified; the impact of demography factors on the formations of the number of rural population and its labor potential is determined; specific features of the formation and use of labor potential at reformed agricultural enterprises are found; in first time the demographic perspectives of forming the size of rural population and its labor potential at the region for the period till 2010 are defined; the calculations of the future labor needs of agricultural enterprises of the Cherkasy region and their provision with labor force due the possible variants of economic growth are made; the main directions of raising the efficiency of using labor potential at agricultural enterprises are developed and substantiated. Sphere of introduction: agricultural enterprises, administrative state region bodies, higher educational establishments.
