Essay

The dissertation is dedicated to development of the sociological concept of generations. Thesis presents discussion on the genesis of the concepts of generation in social sciences and examples of application of these concepts. Specifically in dissertation the heuristic meaning of the concept of generation for the study of ethnic and citizenship self-identification is described. By defining the key elements of the phenomenon of social identification was given a prove to the central role of the cultural succession as a criterion for interconnection and mutual influences between generations. Specific differences and similarities of political and citizenship cultures of generations lay in the diversity of strategies of self-identification. The peculiarities of intergenerational variations of ethnic and civic identifications are reflected in the character of the interplay between processes of self-identification and the objects for identifications. The character of the interaction between individual and a community (recognition by the community, self avowal) describes the specifics of the processes of self-identification of different generations.
