This dissertation suggests scientifically grounded method of teaching school course of informatics for improving its educational, developing and pedagogical role based on using POSIX compatible open source operating system Linux. It has been established that the use of POSIX compatible open source operating system Linux allows to improve pupils' understanding of studying material, intensify their studying motivation, liven up educational activity, make studying more creative and researching, extend theoretical knowledge basis, intensify practical orientation of informatics teaching results at school; partly resolve legal and financial problems connected with software acquisition.
