The theoretically grounded and experimentally tested methodology of the development of the third and fourth-year pupils' skills of using the complex sentences is stated in the dissertation. The essence of the methodical work is in the phased studying of the certain grammatical material by means of the complex of exercises, main of which are construcnional and literary exercises composed on the basis of texts from children's literature.
