Survival in patients with preserved left ventricular (LV) systolic function was compared with the survival in patients with impaired ejection fraction. Patients with preserved LV systolic function characterized better survival than with impaired ejection fraction. Echocardiografic variables which may predict the 10 - year's survival are almost similar in congestive heart failure patients with preserved and impaired LV systolic function. They reflect different measure of dilatation, systolic dysfunction and left ventricular remodelling in above-mentioned groups. Significant predictors of survival in the multivariate model were identified using Cox proportional-hasard model. A model of individual five-years survival prediction has been created which is characterized by high degree of precision and allows to use both quantitative and qualitative variables as well as possibly of omitting certain data.
