The dissertation is dedicated to comprehensive analysis of the Ukrainian ABC books of the end of the XIX - beginning of the XX century as compound pedagogical systems. The Ukrainian ABC book tradition of that epoch is found out. The contribution of separate pedagogues to a formation and development of methods of teaching reading and writing and to the practice of ABC-books making are studied.
