Essay

The thesis is devoted to the analysis of the UN informational complex evolution as well as forms and methods of the UN informational activity and to the research of the UN peace-keeping informational providing. Main politics of the Organization in this sphere and effectiveness of the UN information structure are analyzed. Particular attention is paid to the activity of the main informational body of the United Nations - Department of Public Information. The role of information technologies in the UN activity is considered. Their influence on the general strategy and solution of the Organization problems is analyzed. Working out of such UN informational strategy is proposed which could be attractive to the people and grounded on the analysis of positive and negative reaction on the UN informational measures. General mechanisms and means of the UN activity in communication sphere are revealed. The thesis is devoted also to analysis of the main forms of the UN informational activity - radio, television, mass-media and Internet. The role of the UN information centers in the UN activity is analyzed. It is concluded, that all organizations of the UN system should coordinate their communication activity with the UN information centers aiming to resources integration and formation of the united positive impression about the United Nations. Particular attention is paid to the research of informational work in the UN system on the problems of preventive diplomacy, peace-keeping and peace-making. The dissertation is focused as well on the UN Missions informational providing. Key role of the information departments in the activity of the UN peace-keeping missions is grounded. It is proved, that enlargement of scales and change of essence of the UN peace-keeping missions require improvement of the Organization's informational providing in the regions. The ways to improve the UN informational activity are proposed.
