Object of investigation: the influence of less than a half-filled 4f6 -shell of the samarium atom on the process of it interaction with laser radiation. Aim of studies: to set the main features and peculiarities of the process of three-photon ionization of the samarium atoms, to found the new even-parity bound levels of the samarium atom, to determine their energies and total momenta.Method of investigation: method of crossed atomic and laser beams, method of the multiphoton resonance ionization spectroscopy.Scientific novelty of results: The detailed studies of three-photon ionization of the samarium atom within the frequency range of w = 16990-18450 cm-1 at different laser field strength have been performed. The revelation of the resonance structure is shown to depend essentially on the strength value. It has been found that the most intensive maxima in the three-photon ionization spectra of the samarium atom are due to double resonance transitions. New even-parity states of the samarium atom have been found, their energy and total momenta were determined. Implantation: planned. Sphere of application: atomic physics and spectroscopy.
