Essay

Subject of inquiry - the seed productivity of self-pollinated corn lines. The detection of seed productivity manifestation and the development of principles of paternal pairs selection at their hybridization. The scientific conceptions about the recurrence of a trait "seed productivity" of self-pollinated lines on the elements of their structure are extended; the genetic features of the traits "number of grain rows", "number of grains in a row", "number of grains on a corn cob" in the experimental lines and the mechanism of trait formation of corn lines with heavy seed productivity which are registered at the National Center of Genetic Resources of Ukraine are detected. The recommendations for self- pollinated corn line breeding that combine the high combining ability and seed productivity are developed. The self-pollinated corn lines with heavy seed productivity which are applied to the breeding work of the Yuryev Institute of Plant Growing are proposed. On their basis the single-cross hybrids are developed. They exceed the hybrids-standards by 10% on the productivity. Breeding research institutions.
