Methodological approaches to studying women rights and their implementation into the different political and legal doctrines were researched, the profound analysis of home historiography concerning the scientific problem was made; the main regulations of the USSR Constitutions (1919, 1929, 1937 and 1978) were characterized as the basic norms for the development of women rights and freedoms. The analysis of legislative acts of 1917 - 1991 that include the norms of political, economic, social, marriage and educational women rights was made; the process of international cooperation formation as for the women rights and freedoms defence was viewed; the international legal obligations on women rights defence, which Ukraine had been under as an independent UN member were characterized, and the effectiveness of state policy in the USSR in the branch of legislative support of women rights was evaluated.
