Local democracy as political activity of the institute of local self-government is considered in the dissertation. The modern socio-economical process's influence on the local level of power is analyzed in the Paper. The special attention is payed to study of historical forms and traditions of local self-government in Ukraine. The author suggests the optimum model of local self-government for the modern city divided into districts.
