Orthopaedic patients having upper extremity surgery. The aim of investigation – to elaborate the method of continuous brachial plexus anaesthesia (CBPA) using supraclavicular lateral paravascular approach. Clinical, biochemical, algesiometrical, and statistical methods were used. During surgery, serum cortisol increased insignificantly, glycaemia increased from 4.81±0.13 to 6.49±0.38 mmol/L (p<0.01), heart rate and arterial pressure changed insignificantly. After block had established, SpO2 (Mean ± SD) in traumatized extremity increased from 84.1±4.6% to 90.1±1.5%, three days after surgery it was 93.8±0.9% (p<0.01). Pain intensity during 1st, 2nd, and 3rd postoperative days was significantly (p<0.001) less with CBPA compared with intramuscular opioid injections. Field of application is health protection.
