Essay

Object of the study: Epilepsy with various course of the disease. Purpose of the study: To improve the efficacy of epilepsy treat-ment by means of development of nonmedicamental methods for correction of disturbances in the state of lipid peroxidation and metabolism of amino-acid mediators. Methods of the study: Clinical neurological, biochemical, elec-troencephalography, brain MR imaging, mathematical statistics. Practical significance of the obtained results: The character of clinical biological parameters revealed in the work can be used as diagnostic and prognostic criteria in epilepsy patients. The increase of lipid peroxidation parameters as well as increase in the amount of excitation amino acids can be a reliable prognostic criterion of transition of a favorable course of the disease to an unfavorable one. Methods of dietological correction aimed at compensation of lipid peroxidation and normalization of function of inhibitory and excitation amino acids were suggested to increase the therapeutic effect of antispasmodic therapy. This allowed to increase the efficacy of treatment of epilepsy patients and prolong the remission. Novelty of the obtained results: For the first time, analysis of de-pendence between the findings of clinical biochemical parameters and the type of epileptic paroxysms and the character of the disease was done. It was shown that in a favorable course of epilepsy the processes of increased release of inhibition amino acids were ac-tive, in an unfavorable course activation of excitation mediator systems was noted. Similar tendencies were revealed for the processes of lipid peroxidation: in an unfavorable disease they became more intensive. The research expands the ideas about the pathogenesis of epilepsy as well as allows to increase therapeutic efficacy of the administered antispasmodic therapy due to introduction to the protocol of treatment of dietological recommendations aimed at normalization of lipid peroxidation and amino-acid mediators metabolism. Introduction: The findings of the research were introduced to the clinical practice of Institute of Neurology, Psychiatry, Narcology (Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine), Kharkiv Regional Clinical Hospital, Kharkiv City Clinical Psychiatry Hospital No. 15, Kharkiv City Children's Out-patient Hospital No. 15, Kyiv City Psychoneurologyl Hospital No. 1. Sphere of application: medicine, nervous diseases.
