The author elucidates the historiography of Ukrainian law study composed of West-Russian Law, cites different approaches of scientists of the 19th-20th centuries concerning the West-Russian law conception, determines the limits and the time of its effect, proves the necessity of its general systematic survey, confirms a connection of the West-Russian law with the Old-Russian law. The writer also determines the ways of Lithuanian-Ukrainian law development in comparison with the other types of the West-Ukrainian law, formulates the definition of "Ukrainian law" as an organic union of the Old-Russian and Lithuanian law, marks the geographical territory of Ukrainian law extension, namely Poltavschyna, Chernigivschyna and Novgorod-Siverschyna.
