Essay

The thesis is devoted to the complex analysis of the most typical changes in the lexico-semantic system of the Ukrainian literary language at the boundary between the XX-th and the XXI-st centuries as reflected in the modern prose texts. The specific features of the active lexico-semantic processes are established, in particular in the sphere of borrowing, slangization, lexical reactivation, determinologization, semantic derivation, as well as the appearance of the new semantic connotations and the formation of the time language markers of the analysed period. The main extra- and intralinguistic factors promoting the intensification of the qualitative and quantitative changes in the Ukrainian word stock are elucidated. The peculiarities of the interrelation of the lexico-semantic processes in the verbal structure of the prose text are discovered. The place of the investigated language units in the word stock of the modern Ukrainian literary language as well as their functional stylistic peculiarities are determined. The author's own definition of the notion "lexico-semantic processes" is proposed. The classification of the active lexico-semantic processes is worked out.
