Object of research: the process of forming private farms in the Chernobyl-derived radionuclide contaminated districts of the Zhуtomуr region, namely Volodarsk-Volynsky, Narodychi, Korosten, Olevsk, Ovruch, Lugyny, Malyn, Novograd-Volynsky and Yemilchyno. Purpose of research: substantiating the organizational and economic basis and working out practical recommendations concerning the strategy of private farms development in the area which was radioactively contaminated as a result of the Chernobyl accident. Methods: dialectical method of cognition, systems approach, scientific abstraction, statistical-and-economic method, index method, economico-mathematical simulation, analysis and synthesis, calculation and construction, abstract-and-logic method. Theoretical and practical results: theoretical results contribute to the enrichment of the conceptual apparatus and scientific approach to the formation of private farming structure, extension of knowledge about methodological aspects of private farming formation in the area of radioactively contaminated. Practical importance lies in the possibility of using the obtained results by farmers and agrarian experts. The results obtained facilitate stable and effective development of private farms in the radiocontaminated area. Scientific novelty: For the fist time regional peculiarities are revealed and prospect of private farms development in radiocontaminated area are substantiated, thus facilitating the solution of general problems and overcoming the influence of specific ecological-and-economic factors. The paper specifies the economic essence and advantages of private farming, methodological approach to the optimization of combining private farms breaches in the radiocontaminated area through introduction of limits as to the marginal levels of radionuclide accumulation in the produce to the model and the use of the minimum amount of radionuclide accumulation by the produce as a target function. At also substantiates the methodological approach to the determination of private farming diversification strategy in the radiocontaminated area and shows the place and role of private farming in the agrarian market infrastructure formation process, regional peculiarities taken in to account. The ways for improving the system of information and consultative support of private farms in the radiocontaminated area are substantiated. Degree of introduction: the research results have been approved for introduction by the Central department of agriculture and food-stuffs of the Zhytomyr regional administration, the Association of private farmers and landowners of the Zhytomyr region, the department of agriculture and food-stuffs of the Korosten district administration, the Shvab private farm in Volodarsk-Volynsr district. The above results are also recommended for using in the teaching process of the State Agroecological University.
