Subject: the environment in the NPPs and TPPs impact zones. Aim: assessment of radioactive impact of air emissions generated by the Ukrainian NPPs and TPPs on the environment and human health. Methods and apparatus: Mathematical modelling with the help of two software tools (CAP-88 and PC CREAM) for the content of radionuclides in various environmental features, caused by air emissions from 4 NPPs and 14 major coal-fired TPPs in Ukraine assessment. Spectrometry for the content of radionuclides in various environmental features, coils, slag and fly ash investigation. Theoretical and practical results: The content of radionuclides in various environmental features, caused by air emissions from 4 NPPs and 14 major coal-fired TPPs in Ukraine, has been examined. The comparative analysis of radiation impacts of air emissions from the Ukrainian NPPs and TPPs on the environment and human health has been carried out. . Novelty: the first-ever attempt of such scale in this field in Ukraine, where the laws governing the spatial distribution of human doses resulting from the NPP and TPP emissions across Ukraine have been determined. Level of introduction: the results of this work have been used as a substantial input into the 'Radioecological Passport' of Kharkiv Oblast. Scope of use: the development and implementation of action programmes designed to ensure the protection of human health against the ionizing radiation impacts; the provision of scientifically sound rationale for sectoral development programmes in the fuel and energy sector.
