Essay

This thesis aims to improve results of medical treatment of patients with hypertension via improvement of antihypertensive treatment evaluation methodology based on blood pressure (BP) levels. Office BP measurements, ambulatory blood pressure monitoring (ABPM) and exercise testing give comprehensive information for evaluation of efficacy of antihypertensive treatment. ABPM has higher sensitivity than office BP measurements in diagnostic of hypertension. Methodology of paired exercise testing is proposed as an additional method of evaluation of quality of antihypertensive treatment in patients with soft and moderate hypertension. ABPM allows to assess adequacy and safety of antihypertensive treatment visually, e.g using three-color methodology, as well as using several parameters, incl. modified smoothness index. This study gives the background for wider use of ABPM in clinical practice. An application field is a clinical medicine. The results have been applied in practice of medical institutions.
