Rybalova O. Complex assessment of ecological state and restructure of economic use of small river basins

Subject: anthropogenic impact on eco-systems. Aim: improvement of methodological basis of complex evaluation of ecological state of small rivers and determination of trends and scale of economic use of small river basins. Methods and apparatus: system analysis, mathematical statistics, mathematical modeling. Theoretical and practical results: the method of complex evaluation of ecological state of small rivers was improved; new classification of ecological state of small river basins on the basis of estimation of three ecological safety criteria: acceptability of potential risk for population health caused by recreational use, complex ecological-hygienic index of quality state of water objects and an index of processes development in ecosystems was proposed; a method for identification of pollution sources of small rivers was improved; an assessment of rationality of economic use of small rivers on the basis of analysis of trends of processes development in ecosystems was proposed; a new method of restructing of economic use of the cathcment area f small river basins was developed. Small river basins in Kharkiv Oblast in the worst ecological state were determined; recommendations aimed on the improvement were developed. Level of introduction: practical results of the thesis were used while developing "Inter-regional ecological programme on protection and use of Siversky Donets river basin water". Scope of use: development and introduction of programs on protection of small rivers against pollution and exhaustion.
