Gregul G. Ukrainian biographical prose of the first half of the XX-th century, genre aspect (on the basis of works by V.Petrov, S. Vasylchenko, O.Ilchenko, L.Smilanskiy).

The object of the investigation: the biographical prose of the first part of the 20th century. The objective of the study: the conceptual interpretation of the biographical prose of the above mentioned period and the identification of its peculiarities. The methods applied: the comparative-historical, biographical, descriptive and the intertextual methods. The results and the scientific novelty of the thesis: the symbolic biographical works of Ukrainian and world literature are singled out; the ways of solving the theoretical problems of the biographical prose development, including firstly defined notions of "biographical supergenre", "artistic device" and "surmise" are offered; the following genre forms are differentiated: "artistic biography", "biographical story"; the impact of the literary politics guidance on the biographical prose development of the above mentioned period are firstly investigated. The analysis of the biographical prose of an essay and traditional types of the first part of the 20th century is provided by adopting the study in the works by V.Petrov, S.Vasylchenko, O.Ilchenko, L.Smilyansky insufficiently explored archives data revealing their specific features.
