The dissertation represents research in the field of historical studies of weapon. In work author's classification of a cold steel is offered, the place of a sabre in it is determined. During development Ukrainian terminology the original definition of sabre is formulated. It evolution analysed also. During studying a medieval sabre as product of local craft manufacture, on the basis of documents, the qualitative structure of local industrial raw material - marsh ores is considered, the category of the handicraftsmen making sabres, technological process and necessary toolkit and the Ukrainian centers of local manufacture of sabres is established.Ways of receipts on the Ukrainian markets of the industrial raw material, ready copies, and also components of the sabres necessary for their further installation in local conditions are analysed.The basic attention is given to the analysis of the revealed sabres in museum collections of Ukraine. Morphological types of the sabres consisted on arms of the Ukrainian cossacks are established. Results of the analysis of painting sources of XVII-XVIII centuries has allowed to determine also priorities of use of different types of sabres various groups of cossacks.At a scientific level concepts "cossack sabres" and "the Ukrainian cossack sabres" are proved.
