Kosovan V. Video-endoscopic methods for treatment of nodular tumors of thyroid gland

The subject of research is a nodal benign pathology of the thyroid gland; the aim of research is to improve the effectivity of surgical treatment in patients having nodal benign thyroid pathology by means of improving the existing surgical technique and implementing the newer ones. The methods used are: clinical and laboratory ones, immune enzymatic, instrumental, radio-isotope, cytological and morphological, epidemiological techniques. Originality (novelty): rationale is given concerning the possibilities of using video-endoscopic intervention on the thyroid gland basing upon new techniques and instruments. New methods have been devised concerning prevention of intraoperational damaging of the superior laryngeal and recurrent laryngeal nerves; the early postoperational course and distant outcomes of surgical treatment have been studied ; a comparative assessment of the outcomes in traditional and in video-endoscopic techniques has been made. The Results: new surgical methods of intervention on the thyroid gland have been developed and improved using video- endoscopic techniques, number of days spent by the patient in the hospital has been reduced, professional and social rehabilitation has been improved as was the quality of life. The research results have been implemented into practical work at hospitals having such branch of surgery.
