Essay

In the modern age of the re-estimation of traditional values, there is a need to consider the axiological approach as a separate methodology of philosophic research. The study contemplates the historic-theoretical sources of the conception and development of the values problematic from Antique times to the theory of western European culturology. The author analyzes the views of Kant and music researchers of mid XIX century as a fundamental pre-requisite and source of western European axiology. The study's key research object is the category of value in the neo-kantian tradition as construed by its main schools - the Marburg and Baden ones. At the turn of the XIX and XX centuries, the notion of value obtained the status of a philosophical category, which was increasingly contemplated in philosophic, ethical and aesthetical works. This ultimately led to the establishment of the philosophy of values as e separate philosophical discipline.
