The dissertation work is devoted to the system research of dominant factors affecting the processes of migration of petro-leum products, namely the L grade diesel fuel and the A-76 grade gasoline, in most widespread soils of Ukraine (sandy loams, sandy soils, shell rocks, sands) taking place during transport accidents. The kinetics of migration is described by the relevant empirical equations, which allow predicting the depth of penetration for the corresponding time intervals. A method of absorption of petroleum product spills is offered with the use of sorbents, which are waste materials at plants of the metallurgical, power, civil engineering and woodworking industries of Ukraine as well as some natural materials. The regular studies of influence of dispersion, temperature and moisture content of the sorbents and also the nature of a petro-leum product on the absorption ability have been conducted. The recommendations on rational use of the absorption mate-rials explored have been formulated. A method of salvaging the products of diesel fuel absorption for furnaces adapted for combustion of materials within wide ranges of ash content and heating value is offered. The correlation equations between heating value and absorption ability of the sorbents are de-rived. The results obtained have provided the basis of technol-ogy for elimination of environmental aftermaths of transport accidents with petroleum products. The offered technology has passed the successful tests at Prydniprovs'ka Railways and has become a part of the "Recommendations R003" of the Commission on Transport Policy, Ecology and Combined Transportation of the Organization for Railways Cooperation.
