Shylo V. Structure and semantics of the noun paradigms in the English language (on the material of the French borrowings of the XI - XIX centuries).

The thesis highlights the structural and semantic peculiarities of the French borrowings in the English language. The explanation of the borrowing process is made on the basis of its extralingual determination. Origine and formation of the legal terminological system allowed to observe the intensity of penetration of the French borrowings into the English language. Mode of existence of the borrowed terms in the recipient language as well as their word-forming potential are described by means of the word-forming paradigms. Semantic categorization of the borrowed bases and their derivatives, repetition of some lexical-semantic groups in the paradigms served the ground for the deduction of the typical word-forming paradigm, separate for each grammatical class of words.
