Essay

The thesis concentrates on the systematical analysis of motives in artistic prose by the Russian writer A.Platonov. It also deals with the determination of genesis, evolution and the development of motives in the artist's work during the different periods. The theoretical definition of the term "motive" has been specified; the approaches to studying motives have been generalized. The parameters of the typology of motives have been proposed. The different functions of motives in A.Platonov's works (structure-building, dynamic, genre forming and stylistic) have been noted. The main types of motives (folklore, mythological, existential and others) as well as their modifications in the artist's prose have been studied. The system of motives on the different levels of A.Platonov's prosaic works has been investigated. It has given us a possibility to enrich the notion (motive) and its ideological and aesthetical meaning in Russian literature of the first half of the XXth century.
