Shevchenko-Savchynska L. Etiquette Latin Language Poetry in the Ukrainian literature of the 16-18th centuries.

Latin language, that was a language of educated class of European society for many centuries, created a unique supranational intellectual field where new ideas, trends, tendencies spread very quickly. The bulk of Latin language literature has a number of characteristic features peculiar for literature of any country, but the study of the texts by means of comparative analysis reveals the national specific character. The Renaissance conception of anthropocentrism revived and brought back into common use a number of forgotten poetic genres, and these genres originated in antiquity contributed to establishment of humanistic superiority in the literature of the later times. In the frame of these poetic genres we singled out various types of the etiquette poetry: panegyrics, epithalamiums, genethliacons, epicedies, pathetic poems, paramithethics, that praised people, their terrestrial life and achievements. The low estimate of the artistic value of the 16-18th century poetry written in Latin is the consequence of the non-adequate perception of the literary situation. The first chapter presents a review of the scientific works in the field of Ukrainian New-Latin Studies, the general overall analysis of the influence of the 16-18th centuries historical and cultural environment on the Ukrainian literary process is made by means of investigation of the following issues: historical circumstances of the Ukrainian literature formation in the 16-18th centuries, Latin as a language-mediator in development of the European national cultures, the Ukrainian-Polish literary contacts, the artistic trends of the Ukrainian culture development. It's determined who was the author and who was the addressee of the laudatory poems. In the second chapter the place of the etiquette Latin poetry in the genre system of the Ukrainian literature of the 16-18th centuries is examined, its internal genre division is defined, the issue of style phenomenon of the etiquette poetry is described.
