Essay

The thesis is devoted to the structure of Late Latin sentence, and reflects the changes, which are determined by the gradual transition from synthetic to the analytic construction. It includes views of Roman rhetors and grammarians on the sequence of sentence elements that lead to understanding why word order in Classical literary Latin was free and did not have any grammatical meaning. This dissertation also explores the place of the verb-predicate in main and subordinate clause and its changes compared to the place in the sentence of Classical Latin. Similarly, it studies the place regarding verb-predicate of subject, direct and indirect objects, adverbial modifiers both in main and in subordinate clause.
