Essay

The thesis is devoted to the study of the communicative-pragmatic aspect of Trecento’s historiographical discourse (based on the collections of biographies “De viris illustribus” by Petrarch and “De mulieribus claris” by Boccaccio). The theoretical model of research of historiographical discourse was offered, its methodological and methodical bases were developed. The peculiarities of the biographical genre of Trecento historiography and the novelty of the collections of biographies of Petrarch and Boccaccio were characterized. Within the thesis, the technique of the analysis of communicative strategies, tactics and moves through the term “marker” was developed and applied. Evaluative markers were revealed at the lexical, morphological and syntactic levels with the help of continuous sampling, component analysis, contextual analysis, linguo-communicative method and method of discourse analysis, linguo-stylistic method, method of comparative analysis, etc. It has been found that in Trecento's historiographical discourse each level is productive and provides numerous markers which implement the PRAISE and BLAME strategies. Direct and indirect ways of verbalizing praise and blamein historiographical collections of Petrarch and Boccaccio and the mode of their accentuation in communicative tactics and moves are being determined. Methods of substantiation of positive and negative assessments are investigated.
