The thesis deals with the teaching students of Economics Departments of higher educational institutions to organize their autonomous learning of English using “The European Language Portfolio for Economists”. The methodology of autonomous learning with “The European Language Portfolio for Economists” is theoretically substanciated and practically developed in the research work. While defining the list of professionally-oriented communicative foreign language skills, necessary for economists to fulfill their professional duties, the content of autonomous learning of English in the relevant educational institutions is detailed. The study of European Language Portfolio technology has enabled “The European Language Portfolio for Economists” to develop, which has the potential to effectively organise students’ autonomous learning of English. An autonomous learning model based on a completed bank of the Language Portfolio techniques for individual and classroom work is presented. The model takes into account the Credit Transfer and Accumulation System. The effectiveness of the suggested methodology has been verified and confirmed in the course of experimental teaching. Methodological recommendations to teachers for organising students’ autonomous learning, which is supported with “The European Language Portfolio for Economists” are given.
