The thesis investigates the role of the Council of Europe in the process of democracy consolidation in the post-communist counties of the East Central Europe (Hungary, Poland, Czech Republic, Slovakia and Ukraine) after the Cold War. It has been argued that the Council of Europe carries out the consultative, controlling and preventive role in the process of democratic consolidation in these countries.
