Barvinchenko O. Assessment and development of broad bean (Vicia faba L.) for breeding for productivity

Subject of inquiry - factors which determine the broad bean plant productivity . The purpose of research has consisted in the creation of initial breeding material on the basis of variability and inheritance of characters for obtaining of new high-yielding varieties of crop. Methods of researches are generallyaccepted for broad bean breeding. The value and novelty of researches consist in the establishment of regularities of variability of signs, their interrelations depending on environmental conditions; the identification of genotypes; the determination of ecologically stable indexes which have close correlation on years with productivity of genotypes; revealing regularities of inheritance of the basic economic characters; the selection of genetic donors of these characters. The developed recommendations are applied in crop breeding. The new high-yielding varieties of broad bean - Bilun (entered in the Registry of Plant Varieties of Ukraine in 1999) and Vizir (2005) are developed. The results are introduced at farms of Vinnytsya, Sumy, Khmelnytskiy regions. Sphere of application - breeding scientific institutions and agricultural production.
