Essay

Research object: residential and civic buildings with respect to special needs people’s. Research purpose: defining major functionally-typological junctions of residential and civic buildings and normative principles and methods of their formation and adaptation considering the technological parameters of a wheelchair person. Research methods: professional literature analysis; field research; comparative study of the practical approaches to creating the unimpaired architectural environment at home and abroad; the method of differentiation of the requirements of different types of families with the disabled persons and typological peculiarities of the respective residential cells; the method of integration of complex structures of families with the disabled persons lifestyles for creation of the residential cells models; questionnaire method, and experimental designing. The scientific novelty of the research lies in the complex analysis of the functionally-typological peculiarities of residential and civic buildings with respect to social and demographic features of different families with the disabled persons. On the basis of this analysis a model of residential environment and typological structure of the families with the disabled persons was developed as well as the matrix of the formation of the functional models of residential cells and the nomenclature of the types of flats for the families with the disabled persons. Determined are the major typological junctions for residential and civic buildings and their architectural and planning parameters with respect to the special needs people. Practical application of the obtained results lies in their use in practical design and construction as well as R&D projects for the improvement of the architectural legislation towards the creation of the unimpaired architectural environment which could serve a methodological basis for the development of the municipal programs of creating an accessible urban environment, for designing of individual residential and civic constructions, and as a research and practical basis for developing programs of the instruction courses in social architecture.
