Essay

The thesis is dedicated to the analysis of the anthropological structure of the Cherniakhiv culture population. The research is based on the measurements of numerous series (409 skulls), many of them were collected by the author. Craniological series from 36 Cherniakhiv culture cemeteries are compared to 50 European groups (III c. B.C-V c. A.D). The inter-group analysis shows the mixed anthropological nature of Cherniakhiv population and their genetic links: North-Western (Baltic groups of I-V cc., Goths series, Vielbark culture of North Poland); Western (Maslomench group of Vielbark culture; La Tene Central European groups); Southern (late Skythians, some Ancient Greek cemeteries). The mesocranious type of the Western Ukrainian females will be a characteristic of East Slavs of Kyiv Rus'.
