The dissertation is devoted to the theoretical and practical problems of legal regulation of engaging of the witness in the criminal procedure, namely, legal regulation of its legal status. The conclusions is stated that a witness participates in legal relations both connected with proving and not. The second group of legal relations are connected with the compensation of the expenses for the presence for testifying. Also these legal relations are intended to complaint of actions and decisions of criminal justice officials and also to secure safety of the witness.
