In the thesis indications and contraindications for the outpatient treatment of patients with stone disease with extracorpora! shock-wave lithotripsy (ESWL) are established. Factors increasing the risk of ESWL complications are assessed. The author ascertained the characteristics of stone (size, composition) predicting the high efficiency of ESWL with low risk of complications that enable to perform the lithotripsy on the ambulatory basis. Efficiency of the postponed ambulatory ESWL as the second stage of treatment after the previous drainage of the upper urinary tract in the inpatient hospital is confirmed. On the basis of predicting of ESWL efficiency and complications the author developed the algorithm of selecting the patients with stone disease for ESWL in general and for the outpatient ESWL in particular. Step-by-step algorithm of investigation and treatment of the patients with stone disease suitable for the ambulatory ESWL and organization of the ESWL department work on the outpatient basis isproposed. Economical profits from the ambulatory ESWL are assessed.
