Essay

The dissertation is devoted to the investigation of influence of chronic nimodipine treatment on the calcium signaling in neurons from the dorsal horn (DH) of spinal cord of rats with diabetic neuropathy. Nimodipine resulted in amelioration of pain sensitivity during the 1-st phase of formalin test and partial compensation of thermal hypoalgesia. It was shown normalizing effect of nimodipine on diabetes-induced disorders of Ca2+ homeostasis in DH neurons. Such action of nimodipine was possible only under diabetic conditions. The effect of nimodipine is mediated through a combination of direct neuronal action combined with vascular mechanism.
