Essay

It has been established that development of HIV epidemic process among women of reproductive age is more intensive than in general population and in adult male population. It has been shown that serological HIV antibody testing of pregnant women is the information basis for planning and implementation of interventions to prevent perinatal transmission of HIV in Ukraine. The rate of HIV transmission from the mother to child has strong invert correlation with coverage by antiretroviral prophylaxis among HIV-infected pregnant women and children born by HIV-infected women. Antiretroviral prophylaxis, cesarean section delivery and excluding breast-feeding reduce the rate of HIV transmission.
