Essay

Dissertation is devoted to study of charitable activity in Ukrainian culture since the end of the 19th - till the beginning of the 20th century within the context of native and European traditions. There have been investigated political, economical, social, ideological, and legal aspects of charitable, patronizing and also sponsoring practices, which are realized in Ukrainian culture, the content of basic terms has been analyzed. Special attention has been given to revelation of national traditions in charitable and patronizing activity, their evolution, to study of specific features of their realization in native culture, personifying characteristics. The modern models of charitable activity, which functions in Ukraine within the period of transition, have been analyzed in wide historical and cultural context of national, West European and Russian charitable traditions. The role of the state, business structures, public organizations, legal and natural persons in forming of modern charitable infrastructure of Ukraine has been examined.
