Essay

Objects of the researches are 37 hazelnut cultivars. Purpose is an economic and biological estimation of new hazelnut cvs for the conditions of the Ukraine's Northern Lisosteppe; studying the peculiarities of their growth, propagation, fruit-bearing and productivity in this subzone; investigation of these indexes dependence on the weather factors influence; selection of the best varieties for the Lisosteppe. Methods. The investigations have been carried out in the from of field, laboratory-field and laboratory experiments with the application of agronomic, physiological and economic methods and statistical methods of processing the achieved results. Novelty lies in the fact that for the first time the author has studied and substantiated theoretically the peculiarities of the hazelnut cultivation, growth and fruit-bearing in the conditions of the Ukraine's Northern Lisosteppe; determined the amount of efficient temperatures above 5°C, needed for its plants phenological phases; carried out the evaluation and established the best methods of this crop propagation concerning its pomological cultivars; created mathematical models of the cvs yield depending on weather factors; conducted the integral estimation of the varieties according to the complex of economic and biological properties and singled out the best cultivars for the investigated subzone in order to establish farm orchards. Theoretical and practical results. The dissertant has established the best methods of the hazelnut propagation as well as determined and recommended for the introduction into production varieties which distinguish themselves for the stable fruit-bearing, high yield and adaptivity for the soil and climatic conditions of the Northern Lisosteppe. In 2002 parental gardens of hazelnut perspective cultivars (the total surface 0.6 ha) were established in the Slovechno forestry farm (Ovruch district, Zhytomyr region) and L.P. Symyrenko Mliiv Institute of Horticulture of the Ukrainian Academy of Agrarian Sciences on the basis of our recommendations. The branch is agriculture.
