Essay

I. A. Il'in was one of the brightest representatives of the social and political journalism of the Russian diaspora abroad. Analysis of the reference literature on the selected theme showed that whatever numerous publications they would make, researchers have not still had an integral picture of Il'in's conceptions in religion, philisophy, political and cultural sciences. Although to greater extent, all said above has to do with analysis of artistic devices, which Il'in uses in his essayistic and publicistic works. Meanwhile, Il'in was not only a philisopher, lawyer and cultural scientist, but a writer, an expert of an artistic tale as well. The dissertation reveals originality of Il'in's individual style, studies artistic peculiarities, means and devices of his social and political jourmalism and essaywriting, shows writer's views on culture and its destiny, as well as conceptual pronouncements, identical to current problems of Russia and the ways of their solution. Special attention is paid to the problems of the formation of the author, main and minor characters types, to the revealing of the lexical means of description, to the understanding of the major composition structures, used in the writer's essaywriting and social and political journalism, thus defining the place of Ivan Il'in, who was earlier studied only as a philosipher and political scientist, in the history of the Russian literature of the XX-th century.
