The features and peculiarities of literary time and space in the novel "Doctor Zhivago" by B.Pasternak are explored in the thesis. Theoretical concepts such as "time" and "space" are specified on material of the novel "Doctor Zhivago" by B.Pasternak; their value is exposed for the development of the XXth century literature. Forms of literary time and varieties of literary space in the novel "Doctor Zhivago" reflect philosophical ideas of Boris Pasternak on history, culture, place of a personality and his destiny in the world. The special attention is played to a mythological chronotope, which incarnates the idea about the necessity of returning to the world of the christian values. The protagonist of the novel passes his vital way as a mission, which purpose is a revival of the lost and forgotten ideals. Modifications of literary time and space, expansion of their semantics and functions have influenced the genre of the novel. "Doctor Zhivago" is considered as an encyclopedia of novel forms; theelements of different genres were organically united in the work, that became possible due to the variety of temporal and spatial forms, their plasticity and co-penetration. Co-operation of the literary systems of realism and modernism found embodiment in all structural levels of the novel, including the chronotope. The traditions of Russian and World literature, which found creative development in the prose of Pasternak, are determined in the thesis. Literary innovation of Boris Pasternak in the genre of the novel is analyzed and underlined.
