Symbolization, being a way of abstract concepts and ideas transformation into images, can be considered as double coding, which covers both the search for image representing analog and elaboration of its graphic form. General regularities in the process of symbolization in arts graphic activity of adolescents were elicited, and classification of symbolic images produced. Elucidated was the multifunctional role of imagination in the process of symbolization. The mechanism of symbolic image formation was explored, which involves intellectual actions of analogy permeating the whole process of symbolization.
