Essay

The thesis deals with the integrated-skills approach to teaching students of non-linguistic higher educational institutions to read English texts for business purposes as an integral and correlative course in developing reading, speaking, listening, and writing skills with the priority of reading activities. The integrated-skills approach to methods of teaching English reading for business purposes is theoretically proved and practically developed in the research work. The object of learning reading for business purposes is defined. The principles of developing communicative skills for business purposes with the priority of reading activities are determined. The influence of video on developing the level of mature reading competence is analyzed. The system of exercises for developing reading-based business communicative skills is provided and two models of teaching English reading for business purposes integrally with developing skills in other three principal communicative activities (speaking, listening, and writing) are designed. The effectiveness of the suggested methods has been verified and confirmed in the course of experimental teaching. The results of the experiments proved the efficiency and feasibility of the methods suggested for use at non-linguistic higher educational departments or institutions in Ukraine.
